About hotel
The first theatre building in Zadar, called Teatro Nobile (Noble theatre), was built in the then capital city of Dalmatia in 1783, while the building of the second great theatre - The New Theatre - was ceremoniously opened on 7 October 1865 with the performance of Verdi's opera A masked ball (Un ballo in maschera ). The theatre was opened on the eve of St. Šime's feast, when in Zadar traditionally began theatrical season and after Verdi's death it was renamed to ''Teatro Verdi''.
Teatro Verdi, although slightly damaged in the allied bombing during World War II, soon after the army came was torn down to the ground. Today in Zadar there are no visible signs or memorials that would point to the existence of two major theatre buildings that marked the musical and theatrical life in the city since the opening of the Teatro Nobile in 1783 until the destruction of the Teatro Verdi in the 1940s. This resulted in an irreversible loss of an important element of Zadar's cultural identity. After the war, the theatre was left to devastation and ruin, and the last remains were destroyed in 1974.
Our hotel is characterized by vaults that were characteristic for the architecture of that time, the vaults by which Theatre Verdi itself was recognizable, and as a memorial to this building and the cultural life of Zadar at that time, we decided to name our hotel ‘’Hotel Teatro Verdi’’.
Hotel Teatro Verdi is located on the Zadar peninsula, a historical and cultural heritage, surrounded by walls i.e. ramparts that were a defence system of the city from 16th and 17th century, and which are now under protection of UNESCO.
